Dietary Aide - Evening Shift Part-Time 4pm-8:30pm


  • Take work direction from the Food Service/Dietary Director, Dietary Supervisors and/or the supervising Cook/Chef on duty each shift, as designated.
  • Assist the cook in preparing food in accordance with sanitary regulations, established policies and procedures.
  • Set and clear dining tables, and clean the dining room according to established procedures and schedules.
  • Provide courteous and supportive customer service to all residents and other customers.
  • Encourage resident participation in the dining program, and meal activities.
  • Distribute and collect menus as necessary; assist residents with menu selection, meal and beverage service.
  • Serve food in accordance with established portion control procedures and on timely basis. May only make authorized food substitutions.
  • Assist in checking dietary trays for proper content and presentation prior to distribution.
  • Assist in preparing, storing, recording and serving meals, beverages and snacks for residents/customers based upon resident requests, regulations, established polices procedures and best practices.
  • Clean dishes, equipment and work area according to established procedures and schedules.
  • Assure that utensils and other food service items are cleaned, properly stored, and readily available for next meal service.
  • Maintain a sanitary, orderly and safe work environment, following food-safety standards, policies and procedures.
  • Follow established Infection Control Precautions (Universal Precautions) policies and procedures when performing tasks.
  • Assist in inventorying and storing in-coming food and supplies, as necessary.
  • Demonstrate the ability to safely and effectively use all needed equipment.
  • Apply the knowledge and skills needed for the position, including technical competence in the nutrition and culinary services field; maintain knowledge of organization and industry policies and practices.
  • Develop and maintain a good working rapport with department personnel as well as with other departments within the facility to assure that food service can be properly maintained to meet the needs of the residents.
  • Attend and participate in mandatory in-service educational classes and on-the-job training programs as directed.
  • Complete job responsibilities as assigned and in a reasonable amount of time.

Education and Experience:

  • Must possess, as a minimum, an 8th grade education.
  • Demonstrated customer service and effective communication experience.

Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language to communicate with all customers.
  • Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the general public.
  • Must be a supportive team member, contribute to and be an example of team work and collaborative team concept.
  • Basic computer skills necessary for completing online training and communications.
  • Demonstrate a positive attitude, self-awareness and emotional maturity necessary to promote helpful, respectful and supportive communications.
  • Must not pose a direct threat to the health and safety of other individuals in the workplace.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all pertinent resident care information, including protected health information.
  • Ability to effectively work in a fast-paced environment prone to frequent interruptions and potentially emotional residents and/or family members.
  • Must be able to work rotating weekend and holiday shifts

See attached Job Activity Classification #4 May be exposed to heat/cold temperatures in kitchen/storage area.

May be subject to the handling and exposure of hazardous chemicals such as cleaning products.

Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
